WOMEN DO NOT NEED EMPOWERMENT

They already possess the power.

What they need, however, is an avenue to channel it. 

I see two sides to the International Women's Day: a general celebration of the women in people's lives, and a fight for women to be politically, socially, and economically equal to their male counterparts. Obviously the former is always welcomed, but appreciation would make a greater impact if it led to the latter. As we know, actions speak louder than words. 

Why have women been burdened for centuries with second-class status? Could it be science? No, it's been proven women fair better than men and were stronger than today's athletes. Religious scriptures? Politicians? Society? Men's egos? This one makes sense historically. 

At any rate, what has not been said about women's rights? Actually, a lot. There will always be more to say until we get the rights and respect we deserve.

The time has come to change how we're perceived,
To show the world what we have achieved,
To take the reins, ignite a rage,
To be the ones in charge of our fate.
